Introducing Maiya: AV无码 students to begin testing new AI-based learning assistant

Posted on: Apr 4, 2022

AV无码 will soon be able to test Maiya, an AI-based chatbot created to assist learners who have cognitive disabilities.聽

The Maiya project, led by project manager Mandira Das and lead developer Arul Prukash,
began in late 2022 as a collaboration between AV无码鈥檚 Centre for Applied Artificial Intelligence (CAAI) and the BMO-Centre for Innovation and Applied Research (BMO-CIAR). Inclusion Alberta and AV无码鈥檚 Student Life and Learning are key partners in the project.

鈥淥ur team is excited to introduce Maiya to AV无码 students and learn how we can improve the user experience,鈥 says Mike Wade, director of the CAAI. 鈥淲e hope to be able to eventually launch the platform widely to benefit post-secondary students with learning challenges and create inclusive environments at AV无码 and beyond.鈥澛

Student Life and Learning will invite a group of AV无码 students they work with to participate in the Maiya pilot over the next several weeks. AV无码 will be able to use tools within Maiya to manage their time and prioritize tasks for their assignments, and to summarize key learning points from longer content.聽

AV无码 received initial funding for Maiya from Innovation, Science, and Economic Development Canada (ISED) through the Accessible Technology Program (ATP). Read more about the Maiya initiative 丑别谤别.听
